04/2024. CAR-T cell therapy for solid tumors

The journal Cells publishes a review on the current status of CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor T-cell) cell therapy for solid tumors.

Immunotherapy based on cytotoxic T cells (a type of lymphocyte), modified in their ability to recognize and eliminate tumor cells, has reached the clinic in recent years. Its efficacy has been remarkably demonstrated against malignant cells of hematological origin, such as leukemia. However, its efficacy against solid tumors such as lung or breast cancer is not yet satisfactory.

In this review, the authors discuss the different factors involved in the increased resistance of solid tumors to CAR-T cell therapy and the potential of tumor carbohydrates as possible targets for CAR-T cells.
