Nasal Irrigation | Liquids
A nasal irrigation liquid must be a tamponated saline solution free of substances that could damage sensitive nasal mucosa as those preservatives found in table salt. Non-tamponated saline (physiological serum) could have a negative effect on the nasal cilia. A number of tamponated solutions have been researched and the Locke-Ringer solution is the best for the ciliary function and the nasal mucosa as it contains all the ions necessary to preserve said function.
SinuSalt® is a combination of chemically pure salts (sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride and potassium chloride) with xylitol, rendering a Locke-Ringer tamponated solution free of preservatives. Locke-Ringer solution does not alter the nasal cilia, being slightly alkaline to fluidify the mucosa to facilitate its elimination.
