Sinusalt Slayer

SinuSalt®

SinusaltSinuSalt® is a preparation for making nasal irrigation liquid.

Traditionally, nasal cleaning liquid was prepared dissolving table salt in water. However, refined table salt includes up to 10% of substances for preventing clumping (aluminium hydroxide, ferrocyanides), silica and other additives like iodine and fluorine that irritate the sensitive nasal mucosa. An alternative for said liquid could be saline physiological solution obtainable in pharmacies, but this is not advisable either because it lacks ions (Ca++, K+) present in the mucosa and is critical for the ciliary function.

Various studies have demonstrated that, in contrast with the physiological saline solution, the Locke Ringer saline solution is the best for maintaining the activity of the nasal cilia both in experimental models and clinical trials.

Boek WM et al. Physiologic and hypertonic saline solutions impair ciliary activity in vitro. Laryngoscope, 109:396, 1999

SinuSalt® is a combination of chemically pure salts specially formulated to make a Locke-Ringer solution specifically for nasal irrigation. It produces a solution with a salt concentration similar to that existing in the nasal mucosa. In addition, it is slightly alkaline to facilitate the fluidification of the mucus and soften the chlorine existing in tap water. Other components of SinuSalt is xylitol, a vegetable sugar obtained from fruits and trees, which is highly hygroscopic and also has anti-adherent properties against bacteria and fungi.

Kontiokari et al. Antiadhesive effects of xylitol on otopathogenic bacteria. Journal of Antimicrobian Chemotherapy, 41:563, 1998

Contents: sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, xylitol.

The characteristics of SinuSalt® are:

  • Tamponade isotonic solution (1 bag in 250 mL water)
  • Inert for the ciliary function
  • Soft and delicate for the mucosa
  • Enhances mucus fluidification
  • Antiadherent against bacteria and fungi

Presentation: A box with 40 sachets, 2.5g each.
