The Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation has granted funding for the research project RTC2019-007097-1 applied by INMUNOTEK together with the Complutense University of Madrid.

The approved project entitled “NEW VACCINES AGAINST FOOD ALLERGIES” is part of the State Program for Research, Development and Innovation Oriented to the Challenges of Society, within the framework of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2013-2016.

The topic of the project is aligned with the priority of RETO1 HEALTH, DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGE AND WELL-BEING, established in the State R&D Program Oriented to the Challenges of Society, since it will contribute to increasing the efforts being made to national level to research and develop treatments for one of the most relevant diseases worldwide. Specifically, the project is aligned with one of the thematic priorities established by the Ministry for this CHALLENGE, since it is a research project on a problem that, as indicated in the White Book on Allergy of the World Allergy Organization, is they consider a public health problem due to the high number of population affected by them. According to this organization, it is estimated that between 220 and 520 million people may be suffering from food allergies worldwide. In this same sense, the European Academy of Allergy and Immunology (EAACI) expresses itself, which in its Public Declaration on Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis also highlights that at a European level allergy is a growing public health problem and points out the abrupt increase in food allergies in children and young people, as well as the number of severe allergies that are potentially life threatening (anaphylaxis).
